Dungeons & Dragons
Dungeon Mayhem
The Project:
This game marked a new direction for the Dungeons & Dragons brand—an original children’s card game designed to introduce gameplay concepts from the classic RPG while also being easily accessible to players of all ages.
My Role:
I served as both writer and developmental editor for the rules sheet of this game. In those roles, I adapted the game designers’ initial rules document into a format that would be familiar to anyone who has played children’s card games like Exploding Kittens or Monopoly Deal—a quick summary of the object of the game followed by an information flow that gave the player enough knowledge to begin playing immediately without getting bogged down in the details.
I then partnered with the graphic design team to suggest icon integrations to reinforce game concepts, mapping out the illustrated examples on page 2. Finally, I polled playtesters to determine what questions players had asked the most while learning the game, and distilled those into an FAQ to facilitate players finding answers to their questions with little friction.
